HPP was founded to break the cycle of poverty and abuse for homeless women. One
of HPP's programs, the Community Health Worker (CHW) Training, prepares formerly
homeless mothers to move into the workforce, using an innovative training
methodology and philosophy. CHW also builds partnerships with corporations for
job placement and to address negative stereotypes about homeless women. To date, CHW has graduated 61 formerly homeless women: 56 have found full-time
employment-- exceptional results for this high-risk population. HPP is the first
community agency in SF to hire former clients as staff. The model created by HPP
has been adapted by many other organizations. To share its innovative and
successful model with the field, HPP is now documenting the CHW program.
In 2003, Three Guineas awarded the Homeless Prenatal Program a one-year $15,000
grant to develop and document the Community Health Workers program.
