Success and Change at
GirlSource
Summer 2005 is an exciting time for
GirlSource. With this change of season comes a change in
organizational leadership and incredible success for GirlSource girls.
GirlSource recently hired a new Executive Director, Falilah “Aisha”
Bilal. Ms. Bilal brings enthusiasm, commitment, knowledge of girl
specific programming and youth development, and an extensive background
in non-profit management. Ms. Bilal is a seasoned veteran in the Bay
Area non-profit world. She has worked with a variety of community based
organizations, participated in city and government initiatives, served
on city and community boards, developed intensive youth development
programs, and presented at national women’s health conferences. A former
member of GirlSource’s Board of Directors, Falilah has firsthand
knowledge of the vision and mission of GirlSource. Sharing a similar
background with many GirlSource participants, Ms. Bilal understands the
need for economic empowerment, skill building and a safe place to grow
and learn.
GirlSource values academic excellence and consistently supports
participants’ academic goals. This year, 85% of GirlSource graduates
will attend a four university and 10% will attend community college. For
many, they are the first in their families to attend college. GirlSource
is tremendously proud of these graduates.
With these new beginnings, GirlSource is growing and changing, enjoying
new energy, ideas and possibilities. GirlSource is living up to its
mission and its name. GirlSource.
